The Dream

Rhiannon Arts is an idea born of a dream which is ever unfolding. In the realization of this dream people are coming together through art, which, as one of the most powerful and universal means of communication, transcends language and culture.

With the development of Internet technology we now have access to virtually unlimited global communication. As the Internet community is rapidly expanding, we are breaking down more and more boundaries, sharing our ideas and visions and building relationships with people across the world. It seems only natural that the Internet has become the very foundation upon which the structure of Rhiannon Arts is taking shape, and through which the various elements of the dream coalesce.

The Art

It is the intention of Rhiannon Arts to offer you a select and unique collection of art that may evoke your sense of beauty and harmony. At the same time we strive to provide you with enough variety to be able to satisfy a myriad of different tastes. It is particularly important to us that a considerable number of works of art presented on this web site are of a visionary or spiritual nature, as this is an essential element of our dream and vision.

In addition, we encourage the artists to use this web site, specifically the Biography section, as a forum, giving them the opportunity to express themselves in a way other than through their art.

Communication through Art

Mankind has been communicating by way of art for a very long time. During the Neolithic, long before the invention of writing, our ancestors already expressed themselves through the creation of art. Some of the earliest examples are the neolithic cave paintings of southern Europe, in which the shaman artists, by the act or ritual of painting, may have intended to establish communication with the spirits of the very animals they so vividly depicted. Now, these paintings speak to us, giving us some insight into the lives and beliefs of our ancestors.

In essence, art makes use of a fundamental and universal symbolism in order to convey ideas and experiences, spiritual and otherwise. It provides us with the means to access the inner world, bridging the gap between the conscious and the unconscious. Like a metaphor, art may portray images which are neither one thing nor the other, but the unknown third thing that finds expression through the similes of the artist’s creation. As we are being attracted to a particular work of art, a connection between us and the artist is established. The viewer and the artist recognize a common dream. The artwork has become the medium by which two different individuals have converged upon each others dream and, therefore, have entered into an intimate realm of communication.

The Meaning of Rhiannon

Rhiannon is the name of a princess who figures in a couple of stories in the so-called Mabinogi, a collection of four mythological tales of celtic origin. In one of these tales, Rhiannon emerges from a place called the Otherworld, a different reality in which time as we know it does not exist, and which is inhabited by people and animals with magical powers. Rhiannon traverses the invisible boundary between the Otherworld and the earthly realm riding a white horse.

We hope you enjoy your stroll through our virtual gallery and would be pleased if you share our dream.
